The Michigan Chapter is teaming up with the Vermont Chapter! Join us in attending the Vermont Chapter's Zoom Speaker Series, on Thursday, February 18 at 7pm with special guest Suzanne MacFarland, MD, Pediatric Oncologist - Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
As THON weekend approaches, join us to meet one of Penn State’s proudest, Suzanne MacFarland MD. Suzanne will reflect on her time at Penn State actively involved in THON, which became a decisively motivating factor in her decision to make her career in pediatric oncology.
Suzanne was a Schreyer Honors College student and was involved in THON all four years before graduating in 2007. She ran the Schreyer Honors College team for two of those years, and danced in 2005. THON “definitely influenced her decision” to go on and graduate medical school at NYU (2011), then to complete both her residency in pediatrics (2014), and fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology (2017) at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is now an assistant professor at Penn/CHOP as well, specializing in liver tumors and cancer predisposition, cancers caused by genetics and/or running in families.
Joining her for this virtual presentation will be Kerri Healey, her dance partner in 2005. This will be an exciting reunion for the two of them, as well as an inspirational reflection on THON, and an educational presentation on THON, pediatric oncology and research today for the rest of us.
